Do you girls remember the Raggedy Ann Doll when you were a kid? With red yarn for hair and a peasant frock, she did not have Barbie’s curves but she made a young girl’s best friend. Come September 7, this rag doll turns 95 – almost a century old and yet she remains one of our favourite toys we had when we were kids.
Created by Johnny Gruelle, a cartoonist, illustrator and storyteller for his daughter Marcella, the Raggedy Ann Doll became a hit when Gruelle created Andy, and turned the brother and sister’s adventures into a book series.
In New York, The Strong Musuem of National Play in Rochester is hosting a tribute to Raggedy Ann including a permanent exhibit of the redhead and her brother, Andy.
As part of the exhibit, the museum has invited fans to share their Raggedy Ann photos in a digital scrapbook.
