If you’re going to get pregnant soon or have plans to welcome the first baby into your little warm family, people will start to tell you load of things. While there are no scientific proofs to tell whether superstitious things such as “you’re not allowed to nail things in your house” are just myths or are they true, there are still some that can be proven.
- Full Moon = Birth? False. Though I’ve never heard of this myself, it is said to be widely believed that a full moon can cause a woman near her delivery date to go into labor due to effects of gravity.
- Soaking in a nice warm bath tub won’t hurt or cook your baby. As horrible as this may sound, there are people who actually believe that soaking in the tub can hard-boil your baby. Don’t worry, your baby will probably be as relaxed and serene as you.
- Mama will RAGE if daddy doesn’t get her the food she’s craving for? False. Though I’m inexperienced but I believe we woman won’t be so mean and will love you husbands to bits if you could just get us what we want. Really!
- Lifting your hands above your head won’t cause your baby to get tangled in the umbilical cord! I’m sure your baby won’t be smart enough to imitate your move to get himself tangled and lifting your arm certainly won’t cause so much movement in your tummy.
- Doing handstand right after intercourse won’t help getting you pregnant quicker. The sperm will not have a higher chances of fertility however, staying still for 20-30 minutes may.
- Chemicals in hair dye is harmful to your fetus? Nope! There’s nothing wrong with looking stylish while pregnant so don’t listen to myths saying that hair dye are not good to your unborn baby. There are no direct links between hair coloring and fetal health.
- Microwave and computer radiations are not harmful to your baby though, using keyboard for long hours during pregnancy can lead to some kind of painful wrist-related injury.
- Cats. Unfortunately, as much as I hate to say this, it is true that cats can be a major threat because they carry a certain parasite. However, those who already have cats are probably exposed to the parasite and have developed immunity but it is still advised that pregnant ladies should avoid changing the cat’s litter box. So, get the man to do it, don’t abandon your pet, a part of your family, just to welcome another member to your family.
- Sexual Intercourse during pregnancy will not harm your baby in fact, pregnant women are encourage to have sex unless having high-risk pregnancy.
- Heartburn does not indicate anything about your baby. Although it’s believed that heartburn during pregnancy means that your baby will have a head full of hair, it’s a myth and you better get your health checked.
- Exercise is good for you though, please be mindful of what you’re doing – of course jumping around and climbing up high places is harmful. While many believe that you should not begin any exercise you’re already doing prior to pregnancy, it is important to make your body fit for birth 9 months later. If you haven’t been exercising before pregnancy, you can probably start off with something simple such as walking, jogging and some stretching.
