With all the serious issues that go on in the world, there’s nothing better than some comedy to turn your frown upside down. These celebrities have strived their way through the harsh competitive industry of film and comedy, just so you can sit back and have a laugh. These are ten celebrities that we find to be the entertaining and funny.
1. Tina Fey
Tina Fey is best known for her work on the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live (SNL) and comedy series 30 Rock. She first ventured into comedy as a featured player in an improvisational comedy group The Second City, then joined SNL as a writer, only to be the head writer and performer. In 2004, she adapted the screenplay Mean Girls, a well-known teen comedy-drama which stars Lindsay Lohan and Tina herself. Tina was also awarded the Associated Press (AP) Entertainer of the Year for her satirical portrayal of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in an appearance of SNL in 2008. She is also the youngest-ever winner of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and will be hosting the 2013 Golden Globe Awards in January 13, 2013 with best friend and fellow comedian, Amy Poehler.
2. Joel McHale
Joel McHale is best known for his role as the incredibly handsome but narcissistic Jeff Winger on the comedy series Jeff Winger. Joel started his career in comedy as a member of an improv comedy group, and broke into acting with small roles in CSI: Miami, Will & Grace, and even appeared in Spider-Man 2. Apart from watching him be insanely good-looking on Community, catch Joel McHale hosting The Soup, a satirical weekly show on E! where he’ll take you on a ride through the oddities and ridiculous happenings of the week in television!
3. Seth McFarlane
We all know Seth McFarlane as the brains (and voice) behind most of the cast of Family Guy – Peter Griffin, Stewie, Brian the Dog, and neighborhood pervert, Glenn Quagmire. Seth is more than just an actor. Did you know that the comedy film Ted is Seth’s first step into directing? We thought Ted was ridiculously funny, and let’s not forget that he even loaned his amazing vocal talents for his role as Ted. Apart from being an actor, Seth is also an accomplished singer, and even realized a debut album of his American standards, Music is Better Than Words that just proves how amazing his pipes are! Seth McFarlane will host the 85th Academy Awards on February 24, 2013.
4. Amy Poehler
You might recognize Amy Poehler from Baby Mama alongside best friend, Tina Fey. Amy started in comedy with improvisational comedy group, Upright Citizens Brigade that had a half-hour sketch comedy series on Comedy Central but was canceled after its third season. In 2001, Amy joined SNL with a debut episode and was then promoted to a full cast member. Amy Poehler has made appearances in MOVIES LIKE Mean Girls with Tina Fey, Blades of Glory, and was even included on TIME’s “100 Most Influential People in the World” list.
5. Craig Robinson
Craig Robinson is best known for his role on the US installment of The Office as Darryl Philbin and in various movie roles like Knocked Up and Zack and Miri Male a Porno starring Elizabeth Banks and Seth Rogen. Craig even gave his voice to Cookie the Ogre in Shrek Forever After, and even hosted the seventh season of Last Comic Standing.
6. Joan Rivers
Apart from being the bashful yet entertaining fashion critic on E!’s Fashion Police, Joan Rivers is a comedic legend. Joan started performing comedy in New York since the early 60s and even appeared on a play in the 50s, playing a lesbian with a crush on a character played by then-unknown Barbra Streisand. She’s also released two comedy albums in the 60s, and in 2009, she was given a roast by Comedy Central, where other comedians would honor her by making fun of her. See, female comedians do exist!
7. Will Farrell
Will Ferrell is no stranger to the world of comedy. A household name,a versatile actor, and a top-notch impersonator too! Will has imitated former US President, George W. Bush, Saddam Hussein, and even Cuban President, Fidel Castro on NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. He is best known for his role as Ron Burgundy from Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Stranger Than Fiction, and alongside Ben Stiller in Zoolander. Will is also the brains behind video website, Funny or Die, where short comedy films are uploaded and voted by users. The website features numerous comedic talents like John C Reilly, Craig Robinson, and even Mad Men hottie, John Hamm.
8. Sarah Silverman
Sarah Silverman is everybody’s favorite satirical comedian! Sarah is known for her comedic approach towards social taboos and controversial topics, and mocking racial and religious stereotypes, which obviously makes her likable for being politically incorrect. Sarah first dabbled into comedy as a writer on Saturday Night Live but was fired via fax. Turning that disappointing situation into humor, Sarah’s career in comedy went further. She’s had her own television sitcom on Comedy Central, and appeared in numerous films like There’s Something About Mary, Say It Isn’t So, School of Rock, and even launched her concert film, Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic.
9. Zach Galifianakis
Zach Galifianakis is best known for his role as as Alan Garner in the comedy film The Hangover. The actor started an early acting career in 1996, playing a stoner in a sitcom called Boston Common. One of his most noted television roles was as a coroner in TV drama, Tru Calling starring Eliza Dushku. Zach now has a series of videos on Funny or Die titled Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis where he conducts interviews with popular celebrities between two potted ferns. The cast included Michael Cera, John Hamm, Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, and The Hangover co-star, Bradley Cooper.
10. Whitney Cummings
If you’ve not heard about Whitney Cummings, you probably may have seen her name on the opening credits as Co-creator and Executive Producer of TV sitcom 2 Broke Girls starring Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs. Before making a career in acting and comedy, Whitney started her career as a model. Her career as a comedian didn’t start smoothly as she was constantly criticized for either being too pretty to be talented However, she didn’t give up and ended up appearing on Chelsea Lately and doing Comedy Central Roasts of Joan Rivers, David Hasselhoff and Donald Trump. She also released her debut stand-up album, Emotional Ninja. Whitney now has two television sitcoms, 2 Broke Girls, Whitney (where she plays the lead role) and was recently given her own talk show, Love You, Mean It with Whitney Cummings on E!
