In its financial report released on the 26th of January 2012, they announced that they will be opening 275 new stores worldwide. Immediately, eyes scanned and scrutinized the list and finally, we can now confirm that Swedish fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz (otherwise more simply known as H&M) will be making its foray into Malaysia this year.
Oh what? Yes!
Rumours of the store opening have been up in the air for many years now, since 2009. And we can’t say that we weren’t disappointed when even after opening up its first store in Singapore, there were still no confirmed news about H&M coming here.
Ah, but now we can put our worries to rest and rejoice!
In its report for the 1st of December 2010 to 30th of November 2011 period, it said, “We’re planning for a store expansion in 2012 with about 275 new stores net. The countries in which we will open the most stores during the year are China, the US, and the UK. Bulgaria, Latvia, Malaysia, and Thailand will become the new H&M markets.”
“H&M is continuing to expand in Southeat Asia with a store opening in Kyuala Lumpur in Malaysia during the autumn 2012”, the retailer said of its plans.
Industry sources have also spilled that the potential H&M store location in Kuala Lumpur would most likely be where there is high foot traffic and immediate visibility. And above all, it has to be somewhere that can accommodate a store size of 10,000 sq ft to 30,000 sq ft.
Wow. That’s huge! We already can’t wait for H&M to open its doors to us.
So, where do you think would be the best location for Malaysia’s first H&M store?
