Review: Head Over Heels Valentine’s Day Menu At Prego, Westin KL

Take the pressure off this Valentine’s Day and create lifelong memories with your significant other at The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s award-winning Italian restaurant, Prego. The Head Over Heels Valentine’s Semi-Buffet Dinner Set is an exclusively curated menu to commemorate the celebration of love the intimate way, and showcases authentic Italian fare for a refined culinary experience.

Albeit an interesting concept, the semi-buffet in this respect is commendable. Lovebirds will first be treated to a buffet counter that includes a wide array of Italian antipastos, salads, fresh tiger prawns, crab and shucked oysters on ice, a charcuterie meat board and a cheese board filled with a handpicked assortment of international cheeses, before moving on to single servings of soup, a main course to share, and a delectable dessert, again portioned individually.

The Lobster Ravioli, Sea Urchin Roe, Crustacean Veloute and Truffle Foam soup definitely leaves a lasting impression with its hearty, robust seafood flavours infused in a tomato based puree. Advancing on the amorous meal is the main course of Herbed Parmesan Crusted Black Angus Tenderloin with Wild Mushroom Pithivier and Zucchini Flower, alongside Seared Cod Fish with Fregola Salsa.

Though a larger share was expected as it is meant for sharing, the mouth-watering Black Angus Tenderloin was well executed to a medium doneness with its tenderness retained and evidently deliciously succulent. With that said, the Seared Cod easily stole the show as the skin was crispy, with its flesh still flaky and moist, while being sufficiently seasoned. Cod, once overdone, can become unpleasantly gummy but that’s surely not the case this time around.

To end the meal on a sweet note, the Manjari Chocolate Emulsion, Chocolate Ravioli, Caramelised Banana Passion Vanilla Curd and Honey Comb Ice Cream was served. Decadent and gratifying, the various textures on the plate, from the smoothness of the emulsion to the crunch of the honeycomb, were delightfully complementary. The Caramelised Banana Passion Vanilla Curd really tied everything together.

The Head Over Heels Valentine’s Semi-Buffet Dinner Set at Prego excludes drinks, but diners can feel free to choose from over 60 selections of red and white Italian wines, alongside other beverages available. The dimly lit Italian ambience only added to the amorous affair, and the cosy venue further elevates the romantic atmosphere for a joyous meal.
